Media Release 14 March 2006
New Australian technology allows statisticians to do the talking!
Local developer, ProWess Sports launched their world first technology called StatsPod™ which is a voice-activated statistics recording module designed to operate on the latest ultra-portable computers.
ProWess Sports will be trialled the system during the Commonwealth Games at various sports including Basketball, Badminton, Rugby, Hockey, Boxing and Table Tennis.
StatsPod™ is designed to operate effectively in noisy environments such as would be experienced during the Games. It will allow statisticians a convenient and efficient way of logging events along with the audio feed.
All events are video timecoded and can be quickly cross-referenced using the world class DVCoach digital video analysis system. Logged data is easily transmitted wirelessly over a local or wide area network, update data to websites (eg. for scoreboards, etc) or can be used as dockable module.
It is designed to adapt to any sport and the stats commentators can devise their own statistics profiles if desired. Operators can comfortably sit in the stands amongst the crowd and commentate events that are updated instantly on a StatsHost system.
Some of the main features and highlights of StatsPod™ include:
Voice commands are configurable for any sport
Ability to operate effectively in noisy environments such as stadiums, etc
Audio commentary is discretely recorded against the event and video timecoded
Instant updating to a remote, host system
Transmission of data with WAN, LAN or docking
Advanced audio analysis tools available on the StatsHost
An ideal scouting or observation tool for statisticians, coaches, evaluators or “spotters”.
Apart from the Commonwealth Games trials, ProWess will be extensively testing the system with AFL teams such as Kangaroos, Melbourne, Eagles and NBL teams such as Tigers and Kings (next season). Basketball Australia has expressed interest in using it as a referee evaluation option. There are also opportunities to develop the applications for other markets, including media/broadcast.
Interested parties are welcomed to experience demonstrations of the StatsPod™ technology and discuss it’s application during and after the Commonwealth games. If you wish to see the technology trialled in action at the Games, please contact the office for dates and times.
ProWess Sports has over 20 years of experience in developing innovative sports technology and this is yet another example of it’s pioneering approach.
ProWess Sports Executive Director, Gundars Mantinieks is convinced that this type of voice activated technology is a future of statistics collection and distribution, stating: “StatsPod is destined to be a major productivity tool for sport and broadcasters redefining the method that events and actions are recorded for professional and elite sporting events”
